Moore Square Museums Magnet Middle School Partnership
2010 Program Focus
Students explore the role of entertainment in Raleigh's past, present and future.
In recent years, the educational outreach of CAM has focused around our signature after school program with Moore Square Museums Magnet Middle School. The annual after school program, "Moore Square: Past, Present, and Future", gives middle school students an opportunity to actively participate in the dialog concerning downtown Raleigh’s development and revitalization. This program was created in collaboration with local artist /educator Lee Moore. The school is located on S. Person Street across from Moore Square, and is the only public school located in the heart of downtown Raleigh.
The school, which opened in 2002, is founded on the principle that children learn naturally in environments that support guided exploration, encourage meaningful apprenticeships and projects, and foster interaction among peers and mentors. The instructional program utilizes a myriad of resources in the downtown community including museums, cultural and performing arts groups, and government offices.
The 2010 Moore Square Middle School after-school program is funded by a generous grant from Progress Energy.
